We cannot be successful if we rely on inspiration from an external source.
1. Do Not Rely On Inspiration
If you struggle with motivating yourself, you cannot successfully climb the ladder of growth or any kind of success. We cannot move forward or be in a position to fight challenges that are definitely going to come in our way without first being intrinsically motivated.
But sometimes it’s really hard to foster any kind of inspiration in us. What comes more easily, at times, is looking for “any kind of inspiration” outside of us.
So first, we must become aware that “inspiration” or “motivation” is like an unfaithful partner. We cannot rely on it. Sometimes it is there, sometimes it is not. Sometimes it serves us, sometimes it is completely deaf to our plea.
““Motivation” is bullshit. Successful people didn’t have more sparkle juice for breakfast – they just wanted it more than you do, and were willing to endure more setbacks to get it.” Kris Gage
2. You Can Rely On Your Daily Habits – Not On Your Feelings of Inspiration
I still read materials to inspire myself. I still engage with others looking for some sort of inspiration from others. I still listen to some audios wanting to be inspired. I still study articles written by authors I admire looking for the spark in me.
But I must do the work every single day. I must get up and write. I must do that and I do it even though I might not feel like writing sometimes. I must improve my training and I do it even though it is tiresome and time-consuming.
I thrive on improving my self-improvement daily because I’ve seen that daily habits triumph over any kind of short inspiration every time.
“When we crave inspiration from others (any external source), we become desperately hungry.”
3. Let The Inspiration Come From The Inside
The key is not to rely on external inspiration. You will never be satisfied from with source. Inside is where you should look for it, but not by sitting on your couch and expecting it to appear right in your face calling your name.
That won’t happen. You must get up and do your thing.
Writing is a dream I’d been holding close to my heart for as long as I can remember. But it is much more than just a dream now because I am doing it every day.
The best publishers on Medium have asked me to publish my articles. Mind you I’ve sent a draft to two publishers and I’ve been accepted as a writer into five biggest publishers. I cannot exactly express to you the joy I‘ve felt when I received the emails from those publishers. I could have died with happiness right there.
But ———–
I must get up early the next morning and continue writing. I did. And I’m still doing it.
Euphoria can only serve us for a very short period of time. Even then it will not bring the food on our table. Even then it will not repair our relationships. Even then it will not develop our skill. Even then it will not make us be the best student or the best hard-working person or be the very best in our field.
“Feelings are great but without hard work and grit, they will have no meaning to your success.”
I’m practicing and honing this skill just like I’d do for any other skill.
You can laugh, but when you are sure that you want “something” you realize that the inspiration you’ve been looking for is already in you.
I think everyone has a dream. Everyone has something in their heart’s that is very important and special to them. But only a few people do the hard work every day to achieve what they want.
Accept that inspiration is not enough.
