Is there any law that says we can’t make our work life exciting? I am going to tell you a story. At my work place, I bribe the people I work with two things, story telling and training. There is always training that is related to the task at hand and few minute morning sessions for the sole purpose of story telling.

It is not one thing that is common in my work place, but two extraordinary common things that we do all the time. Story telling and training. These two things have a place they call home in our work place. You know a favorite play station where we play our music all the time, my work place is exactly like that. The place is not a job to me, rather it is a place that is close to my heart and I cannot wait to get there every day. This is mainly the result of morning story telling sessions and on-going training’s that are there all the time.

Story telling

Companies might consider setting aside few minutes every morning a waste of time. But the benefit this has on each and every one of the employees is unimaginable. The time we set aside for this objective might not even be every day, it could be once per week or per two weeks. But once the time is set, it should be constant for it to be successful.

The story I am talking about here is not a complicated one, rather a simple one. In the few minutes they have, employees can share their life and expertise in a story form.

Tell a story,

Share a story,

Listen to a story.

Make your work place,

A better place,

An exciting place,

A satisfying place.

Look into the person behind the work,

Value the person behind the work,

And you will be rewarded.

Imagine a company that has different departments in it in your mind. Let us say, all employees in one department have started this morning sessions. They meet every morning for 15-20 minutes. What the employees talk about in those few minutes could range from the health status of an employee to a detail task of a particular project. They share their ideas, they listen to each other and more importantly they ask about each other. Through this process a colleague will definitely be a friend.

If this habit of the department that is having morning sessions continues, others will be attracted to it. Why? Because it has remarkable advantages.

The followings are the advantages of having few minute morning sessions:

· Employees keep motivated and fresh.

· Employees feel valued.

· People remember stories.

· Self-confidence develops.

· Positive emotions are shared.

· Negative emotions are reduced.

· Every one learns from one another.

· Positive attitude is shaped through the process.

· Job satisfaction increases.

· Others are attracted to it.

· It is inspirational to others.

Training

The importance of training really cannot be overemphasized. Every company should incorporate training as part of its investment program. If a company trains its employees regularly, then the benefits are tremendous. Employees feel valued. They are more strongly motivated by this value given to them than any financial rewards. Hence, they show up more often, stay longer at their work place and are more productive overall.

Topics of employee trainings depend on what kind of company the employees work and what it does. But basically the followings are typical topics of employee training’s:

· Communications

In this topic, training’s are given on how to communicate effectively among employees.

See how we really communicate with each other.

· Computer skills

Training’s that are related to technology are delivered.

· Customer service

This is an important training sector whereby customers are given their deserved attention. Training’s related to the enhancement of customer service and handling of customers is given.

· Human relations

This is another critical training area whereby misunderstandings and conflict that arise among employees are studied and trained upon. How to resolve conflicts at a work place is the main objective of such training’s.

· Diversity

Like the name indicates, in this part the culture of a company and the people who work there are explained and taught in detail.

· Ethics

This is a basic training that is given before all other training’s.

· Quality initiatives

Anything that is related to the quality of a product or of a service is given an attention in this section.

The benefits of training employees is for both sides. On one hand, it is good for business. The new skills a company needs are been given to the employees through the training’s. In addition the company almost always delivers better customer service as a result of training. On another side, it is good for employees as well. They acquire new skills. They feel valued and are kept fresh and inspired.
