Why the traits missing from your job description beat the perfect resume
You are not your resume. How do you communicate with your colleagues? How do you do your job? How do you act when no one is looking? Will your colleagues remember you when you leave? Will they miss you? Who are you outside of your resume?
A tyrant from my workplace left for the United States to pursue more education. None of us are sad to see another person take his position — in fact, we’re delighted. He treated us as if we were less than him.
Granted he has a Ph.D. in leadership. The walls of his office are plastered with certificates on all four sides. When you would walk into his office, it would take more than a few minutes to appreciate his achievements.
But.
That meant nothing, because something essential was missing from his perfect resume, that showed us the kind of person he really is.
The whole time I worked with him, I could never have a decent conversation with him. He thinks he knows everything. All the time. I once spent the whole day trying to convince him to take on a new project I was excited about. My effort was an exercise in futility.
What was missing from his resume was simple skills and traits, that would have made him a better person.
To your inspirations,
Banchi
