As soon as I saw my boss walk into the room, I went to him and told him of my new ideas.

Totally without listening and unconcerned with my new ideas, the boss looked at me with a cynical smile and said, “Oh no! This is a big project and we are going to take my idea. Better tell the others the same thing.”

I was fuming with anger!

I was working very hard and I wanted my opinions to matter. But not once has my boss listened to my ideas and valued them.

I did not care that my boss was a grumpy old man. I cared that my ideas were being trampled again and again.

That happened years ago.

At the time, I wanted to lash out and demand that my ideas were given a chance.

I didn’t. I couldn’t.

I was an employee and he was my boss.

So, I contained my emotions trying to be smarter.

I was giving training to his customers. I was very good at my training and customers were very happy with me.

And yet, my boss was always criticizing me.

I eventually understood that this man wanted me to fail and he was negatively influencing the rest of the team with his cynical attitude.

How I hated that environment (In spite of my love for giving trainings – one person was making my every day a hell).

More frustrations! More anger!

I was 23 years old at the time, with no training experience.

It was a tough start!

• Was my boss the problem? Probably.
• If I remove myself from the situation, would I be free of this endless frustration? Probably.
• How did I get out of the situation?
  • I recognized a truth. I am the ONLY ONE who can change my situation – NOT my boss.
  • I realized that MY training abilities have NOTHING to do with the way my boss was treating me(my boss used to tell me that I cannot develop a career out of trainings saying that training is not a real job).
  • I started looking for another job as a Personal Development trainer.

I worked in that environment I explained above only for about 8 months.

But what a LESSON that environment has taught me.

Lesson: Keep your dreams. NEVER let anyone take away your dreams.

Surprisingly my next boss was a complete opposite. He was a true leader who wanted every member of his team to thrive and grow.

There is a story of a little boy who dreamed BIG.

One day he was given an assignment on ‘what do you want to become when you grow up?’

He thought a lot about what his answer would be and come up with this:

‘I want to build a beautiful farm. In this farm all kinds of animals will have a home. And I will take care of them. Everyone will know that I have this GIANT farm.’

His teacher reading the little boy’s answer called the boy to his office and told him to change his answer.

Little boy: ‘Why?’

Teacher: ‘That cannot be your answer. Change it or you are going to get an ‘F’’

The little boy went back to his home and taught on what his teacher has told him.

The next day —

He gave the same answer to his teacher.

The boy was called again to his teacher’s office.

Teacher: ‘Why are you giving me the same answer? I told you to change it.’

Little boy: ‘You can keep your ‘F’, I will keep  MY DREAMS.’
