The other day, I was in a meeting.
Many important people were sitting around the table.
I wanted to say something.
Do I want to say something because I want my voice to be heard? Do I want to say something because I want people to look at me and see me? Do I want to say something because I want people to see me as this powerful woman?
That is an ego.
In ego, intention is not good.
ego makes us undermine others and destroy ourselves in the process.
Psychologists use the word “egotist” to refer to someone whose sole aim is on himself/herself. And more importantly a 100% complete disregard for anyone else.
Where there is ego:
We can’t listen to others,
We can’t empathize,
We are unwilling to learn from others,
Effective communication is impossible,
We can’t work well with others,
Intention is always self-centered.
ego might deceive us in making us believe that we are highly confident.
But what we have is not confidence but delusion. It even becomes arrogance.
How are we supposed to relate to others when we are living inside our own created illusions?
I am not saying here to not have confidence. I am saying we ought to make the distinction between confidence and ego.
Confidence is based on what is real. In confidence, the intention is always good.
ego is based on delusion. It is artifice.
In ego, intention is always selfish and self-centered.
Back to the meeting I had the other day.
Do I want to say something because I have something important that might be useful or helpful to everybody?
That thinking is the opposite of what ego thinks.
So, I say there is nothing good about ego!
It is an ENEMY!
