Delightfully Discovering This Interesting Person You Are Through Exploring

Nobody will be able to find the you, you are looking for, for you.


In high school, competition among students helped us to know our friends better. A teacher would pick a student and ask about his close friend. What is his close friend’s favorite food? Favorite sport? Favorite color? What does he like? Is there anything he hates doing? What does he want to be when he graduates from college? What is his grandmother’s full name?

A student who knew the deepest and darkest secrets about his friend got a trophy and nominated best friend ever.

Nomination was my goal. So, I went behind my best friend’s back to learn more about her. Who better than her parents to tell me everything I need to know about her? I spent weekends at their home trying to find things I did not know about a person who was close to me.

All this exploring was to find out everything about someone else.

I wish the teacher had asked us to dig ourselves.

It is good to know our friends — but nothing comes even close to knowing ourselves.
