Aren’t we more than that?
June 5, 2018 by Banchiwosen Woldeyesus
When we see someone smile at us,
and we do not return in kind.
When someone needs to talk to us,
and we don’t lend our ears.
When we know we have drifted apart,
and we lack the courage to begin the friendship again.
When we see a distressed person,
and we pass by without sparing a minute.
When we see some injustice in our surroundings,
and we choose the side of indifference.
When we see happiness in our friends,
and we do not feel the joy.
When we see sadness around us,
and we do not share the grief.
When we want to do something,
and do not do because of fear.
When we allow others to think for us,
and our principles get tossed aside.
When we are asked to do more,
and we say that is not our job.
When the job needs to be practiced again and again,
and we say we have done all we can.
When our sense of duty is weak,
and we do not give our full potential.
When someone is angry at us,
and we respond with more wrath than directed at us.
When we do our daily activities,
and we lack willpower and zeal.
When we receive,
and we do not practice giving in return.
When we have been given forgiveness,
and yet we hold a grudge.
When we stopped caring,
and forget that we can never be everything that we could be without it.
and above everything else,
When we forget to be a good person,
and we forget that our mind executes our choice,
counting on our willingness,
what it has been nourished.
